Yesterday’s CONVERGE 2024 event was a resounding success, filled with thought-provoking discussions and invaluable networking opportunities. As we reflect on the day, several key themes stand out: the importance of commercial thinking from the outset, the necessity of early proof points to demonstrate value when speaking to investors, and the critical conversations surrounding green premiums. These themes were woven throughout the day’s events, from an engaging fireside chat led by CICE CEO Sarah Goodman to focused panel discussions, each contributing to a rich tapestry of ideas and insights.
A few highlights from the day:
- The room was full as Jonah Goldman of Generate Capital emphasized that the key to effectively raising capital is to plan for commercializing the business ahead of when you think you will need to. He challenged the innovators to think about how they can “put steel in the ground” to demonstrate a market and a path to success? This resonated deeply with many attendees.
- The panel discussions at CONVERGE 2024 showcased the power of collaboration, with finance and industry leaders coming together to share their time and expertise with B.C.’s climate and clean energy community. The finance panel discussed the importance of aligning early proof points with revenue sources and the challenges of green premiums, while the corporate panel emphasized the need for support as hard-to-abate industries evolve, ensuring a smooth and stable transition.
- We announced investments in 13 transformative climate tech companies and launched an exciting new funding opportunity for innovators advancing energy storage innovation and grid technologies.
- It was inspiring to witness the incredible connections being made throughout the event. The unique networking opportunities at CONVERGE 2024 allowed attendees to engage with peers, industry leaders, and potential collaborators in meaningful ways. It was energizing to see so many people come together with a shared vision for the future, engaging in lively discussions and exchanging ideas.
As we reflect on CONVERGE 2024, it’s clear that the event was more than just a series of talks and discussions—it was a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and the collective pursuit of a sustainable future. We are deeply grateful to all who participated and contributed to the event’s success, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.
