Battery Technology + Energy Storage

Plug-in hybrid EV snow plow

THE PROBLEM

Medium- and heavy-duty transportation is a major source of local air pollution, disproportionately affecting disadvantaged communities. Solutions are limited, particularly for vocational vehicles (including snow plows). Electrifying vocational chassis, such as those used in heavy-duty trucks and other industrial applications, presents unique challenges that demand specialized solutions. The high power requirements, weight, and durability of these vehicles create significant barriers to electrification that must be addressed to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

THE SOLUTION

Transforming winter road maintenance with the world’s first EV tri-blade highway snow plow.

Edison Motors is developing and testing a tri-blade highway snow plow based on the EDISON L500 Hybrid Electric Truck platform. This unit will be tested on the B.C. highways under various weather conditions by Emcon Services, a major highway service contractor.

CICE funding will accelerate the commercialization of Edison’s PHEV technology platform, including the development of a liquid cooled EV hydraulic system, a Heat Pump HVAC liquid cooling system, and the integration of Li-Ion Manganese Oxide battery cell chemistry. Significant hardware and software improvements have been made through testing the L500 production prototype this year.
