HOW CICE FUNDING WORKS

Fast-tracking clean energy innovation like the planet depends on it. Because it does.

Who we fund

CICE supports B.C. clean energy innovators that have the potential to accelerate the world towards a net-negative carbon future.

The frontier technologies and solutions we fund are at a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) between 4-9, including development, demonstration and commercial implementation.

Where we fund

CICE helps scale world-class clean energy solutions that address ‘hard to decarbonize’ challenges in high-emitting industries such as:

  • Mining
  • Forestry
  • Marine
  • Oil and Gas
  • Aviation
  • Agriculture
  • Transportation
  • Industrial Manufacturing

What we fund

CICE plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between the technologies we have and the solutions we will need to meet our 2030 and 2050 emissions goals. We fast-track hard tech, soft tech, emissions measurement and business model innovation with high-impact potential in the following clean energy sectors:

FUNDING STREAMS

Fund what is available — open innovation calls

Some of the best new ideas come from the least expected places. CICE’s open innovation calls welcome game-changing ideas and project proposals from B.C.-based companies across all focus areas. These calls are intended to help build a province-wide funnel of available solutions and emerging technologies.

Fund what is needed — directed innovation calls

Targeted or directed calls for innovation tackle sector demands or technology gaps identified through the CICE intelligence gathering process. These calls involve identifying and mobilizing innovators - from within the clean energy sector and beyond — who have adjacent technologies that can connect and advance the evolving decarbonization ecosystem.

A data-driven approach to clean energy investment

CICE is continuously gathering intelligence to pinpoint gaps in energy strategies and hard to abate sectors, assess the market readiness of current technologies and direct investment towards high-potential innovations to achieve global net-zero emissions goals. Various blueprint studies, segway reports, and broad industry consultation serve as a launchpad to future ideation workshops, targeted innovation calls, and focused co-funding programs.
