LOW CARBON HYDROGEN

Enabling hard-to-decarbonize industries to reach net-zero and beyond

Accelerating the growth of British Columbia’s low carbon hydrogen economy

Low carbon hydrogen can help reduce carbon emissions in several industries, including transportation, power generation, and industrial processes. The demand for clean hydrogen is increasing as it is critical in achieving CleanBC objectives and decarbonizing hard to abate sectors where direct electrification is challenging.

CICE funding for low carbon hydrogen projects

With more than 50% of Canada’s hydrogen and fuel-cell companies in B.C., the province is well positioned to be a global leader in hydrogen and fuel cell technology.  CICE funds innovative, low carbon hydrogen solutions related:

  • Low carbon intensity hydrogen production pathways such as electrolysis, biomass gasification and steam methane reforming
  • Hydrogen fuel cell technology and energy conversion systems
  • Hydrogen solutions for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors such as heavy industry and transportation
  • Hydrogen as a feedstock for industrial processes
  • Hydrogen infrastructure development and energy storage
  • Hydrogen for power generation and heating
