Low Carbon Hydrogen

Hydrogen refueling station design for extreme weather

THE PROBLEM

Extreme climate change environments have been a barrier to the expansion of hydrogen refueling stations across Canada and North America. Approximately 14% of B.C. emissions come from ~180,000 heavy-duty vehicles generating approximately 10.5 Mtonnes CO2e/yr.

THE SOLUTION

HTEC is enabling the adoption of zero-emission vehicles in the transportation sector by weather-proofing hydrogen refueling stations. This project will improve the reliability of stations operating in extreme weather conditions (below -20C and higher than 30C) and address technology limitations of hydrogen refueling station components to result in higher uptime and fueling availability.

Each hydrogen refueling station added to the B.C. network allows adoption of 400 light-duty or 90 heavy duty fuel cell electric vehicles. Addressing design and construction efficiencies will enable the expansion of hydrogen refueling stations across Canada and North America.
