Low Carbon Hydrogen

Heavy-duty hydrogen infrastructure project development

THE PROBLEM

Hydrogen fuel has been identified as a promising option for decarbonizing the heavy-duty transportation sector, particularly for long-haul trucks and buses. However, the lack of hydrogen fuel supply and infrastructure presents a significant barrier to the widespread adoption of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in this sector.

THE SOLUTION

HTEC’s Heavy-Duty Hydrogen Infrastructure Project is a program to develop hydrogen fuel supply infrastructure to support the deployment of heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks in British Columbia. Part of a sector-level strategy, it brings together industry partners along the whole value chain, including Canadian private companies and multiple government partners.

CICE helped to fund the development phase of the British Columbia portion of HTEC’s Heavy-Duty Hydrogen Infrastructure Project. This project provides the hydrogen fuel supply needed to accelerate the transition towards zero-emission vehicles in the heavy-duty transportation sector – a crucial step in achieving Canada’s climate targets.
