Battery Technology + Energy Storage

5 MW / 10 MWh Demonstration – Repurposed electric vehicle battery energy storage solution (REV – BESS)

THE PROBLEM

The repurposing of electric vehicle battery packs is an important part of the battery energy storage solution value chain. But to be considered as an alternative energy option for remote communities, energy needs to be stored and delivered at an affordable cost.

THE SOLUTION

Rainhouse is building a battery energy storage system (BESS) with second-life electric vehicle (EV) battery packs starting with a range of 1MWh to 10 MWh capacity. This will be a versatile energy management system that utilizes electric vehicle batteries from any automotive manufacturer, including Mercedes and Nissan.

This project will fund the scaling from a 100kWh containerized battery energy storage system to a 1MWh system that can either connect behind the meter or to an energy grid. It will also include the development of a first of its kind “pay-per-use” business technology solution for low-cost leasing in small Canadian municipalities.
